Eli Manning Interested in NFL Ownership if ‘Right Fit’ - Front Office Sports - October 17th, 2022
Eli Manning would like to be an NFL team owner, but he’s not sure if he would look beyond the only team he’s ever played for — the New York Giants. “It’s of interest, it’s just got to be the right fit,” he told Front Office Sports, adding that he isn’t sure when the opportunity will arise because “I don’t think the Giants are going to be for sale anytime soon.”
Suns’ Owner Sarver Plans to Keep LaLiga Club Mallorca - Sportico - October 14th, 2022
While Phoenix Suns and Mercury owner Robert Sarver is selling his basketball franchises in the wake of his suspension by the NBA, Sportico has learned he is holding on to another major team, Real Club Deportivo Mallorca of the top-flight Spanish soccer league.
Andy Kohlberg, Mallorca president and Sarver’s business partner of 20 years, said that the NBA report will not change how the club is managed going forward.
Tom Brady and Kim Clijsters latest to buy Major League Pickleball team - Sports Pro Media - October 13th, 2022
National Football League (NFL) icon Tom Brady and former women’s tennis world number one Kim Clijsters are the latest athletes to purchase a Major League Pickleball (MLP) expansion team. The pair are part of a group led by Knighthead Capital Management, which also includes the firm’s co-founder Tom Wagner, as well as film producer Matt Alvarez and Wall Street bond saleswoman Callie Simpkins. Kaitlyn Kerr, a financial advisor, is also onboard and will serve as general manager of the MLP team ahead of its debut in 2023.
‘Manchester United not for sale,’ Glazers tell Jim Ratcliffe - Sports Pro Media - October 12th, 2022
Ineos founder Jim Ratcliffe has cooled expectation regarding his involvement in any move to acquire Manchester United after he was told by the current Glazer family owners that the English soccer giants are not for sale.
Ratcliffe, a fan of Manchester United, declared in August his desire to invest in the club following reports that the Glazer family was open to selling a minority stake. Ratcliffe, who owns French top-flight outfit Nice among other sports properties, has been seeking to grow his soccer club portfolio having also made an attempt to buy Chelsea before Todd Boehly’s consortium sealed the deal to acquire the Premier League club.
SC Braga sell 22% stake to Qatar Sports Investments - Sports Pro Media - October 10th, 2022
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has signed a share purchase agreement for a 21.67 per cent stake in Portuguese top-flight soccer club SC Braga.
The deal is expected to close in the next few months, subject to certain closing conditions.
SC Braga finished fourth in the Primeira Liga last season and are currently third in the table this campaign after nine games.
Report: Everton attract takeover interest from LAMF Global Ventures - Sports Pro Media - October 6th, 2022
Everton’s takeover saga has taken another turn after US special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) LAMF Global Ventures held talks with the English top-flight soccer club, according to Bloomberg.
The discussions are reportedly at an early stage and there is no certainty a deal can be done. LAMF could also turn its attention to another European soccer club.
The SPAC, which is led by Los Angeles-based producers Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman, counts former Everton director Keith Harris as a senior advisor and raised US$253 million in an initial public offering (IPO) last November. Soros is the nephew of hedge fund tycoon George Soros.
Melbourne Victory secure major investment from 777 Partners - Sports Pro Media - October 5th, 2022
Australian top-flight soccer club Melbourne Victory have secured investment from 777 Partners, with the firm becoming a minority shareholder in the team.
Based in Miami, 777 Partners has already built up an investment network of soccer clubs around the world, including Spanish side Sevilla, Italian club Genoa, Brazil’s Vasco da Gama, Belgium’s Standard Liège, and France’s Red Star FC.
