Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds buy stake in Liga MX club - The Guardian - April 29th
Actors and Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have bought a minority stake in the Liga MX side Club Necaxa, Variety and Sportico reported on Monday.
The pair join celebrity minority owners actor Eva Longoria, Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander, model Kate Upton and NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Conor McGregor becomes part owner of BKFC - MMA Fighting - April 28th
Conor McGregor continues to expand his combat sports empire after becoming a part owner of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships.
The former two-division UFC champion made the announcement on Saturday night during the BKFC KnuckleMania 4 card from Los Angeles. Under the deal, the Irish superstar’s company McGregor Sports and Entertainment becomes a part owner of BKFC, with Triller remaining the majority shareholder in the company.
Aston Villa confirm Atairos investment as four new members join board - Sports Pro Media - April 15th
US strategic investment company Atairos has completed a previously announced deal to become a minority partner in V Sports, the owners of Aston Villa.
V Sports, Nassef Sawiris and Wesley Edens’ joint venture that manages the business partners’ investments in sports, will continue to own 100 per cent of Aston Villa and retain full control of all club decisions.
Arizona Coyotes officially headed to Utah as sale gets final NHL approval - CBC - April 18th
The Arizona Coyotes are officially headed to Salt Lake City.
The NHL board of governors voted unanimously Thursday to approve a $1.2 billion US sale from Alex Meruelo to Utah Jazz owners Ryan and Ashley Smith, clearing the way for the franchise's move to Utah next season.
The deal includes a provision for Arizona to get an expansion team if a new arena is built within the next five years. The deal will be facilitated through the NHL, with $200 million going to league owners as a relocation fee.
Everton takeover deadline ‘pushed back’ by 777 Partners - Sports Pro Media - April 11th
777 Partners has reportedly requested an extension to complete its takeover of Everton and is now expecting to finalise the acquisition at the end of May, according to Sky News.
The Miami-based investment firm had been hoping to close the deal by the end of this week, after reaching an agreement with the Premier League club’s owner Farhad Moshiri last September. However, it is reported to have struggled to raise enough funds for the transaction and has therefore been unable to conclude its acquisition.
Tottenham Hotspur Confirms Talks With Potential Investors - BNN Bloomberg - April 3rd
(Bloomberg) -- Tottenham Hotspur is in talks with potential investors over a stake in the London football club, marking another Premier League club hunting for cash after a boom in sports team valuations.
The board and its long-term adviser, Rothschild & Co., have begun talks after stating the club “requires a significant increase in its equity base” in order to continue to invest in its teams and “undertake future capital projects,” according to a statement within its financial results published Wednesday.
